2017 Illinois Reading Council Conference

I was lucky enough for my district to send me (and about 10 other literacy leaders) to the 2017 Illinois Reading Council Conference in Peroia, Illinios. It was my first time attending a professional conference since moving to Illinois from my home state of Texas.

The conference offered several conference strands, which included Administration, Librarians, Coaching, Early Career, English Language Learners, Librarians, STEM, Technology, Title 1 and Writing. With the wide variety of the different strands, I was able to review the program and narrow down my selection for my time.

I was able to further my professional learning on Close Reading, Coaching with new teachers, listen to Megan McDonald discuss her writing process, Increase guided reading instruction and vocabulary, and several other amazing sessions.

Where ever you live, I recommend looking at your state’s reading/literacy conference and check it out. I am so impressed with my professional learning, I have plans to attend next year!
